I've seen little tops like this a lot on the interwebz and as the weather has been uhmazing the past few weeks I thought Grier might like a little sun top of her own. She can wear a t shirt underneath it, when you know it's a proper Scottish summer with driving rain and gales.
I followed this tutorial here. I tried to follow the instructions on making it reversible but I just couldn't figure it out. It's my pet peeve when people complain about generously provided free tutorials so you won't find any complaints here but this one foxed me. I also discovered too late that the same author very generously provided this help on making a pattern for the top. So I made a teeny tiny version first and I'm now going to pretend it was made for my beautiful brand new niece Olivia (sshhh don't tell her it's a sewing mistake - it's a bespoke item....)
My second attempt fits Grier really well. I made it top length as opposed to dress length so she could wear it with shorts but I can imagine it made longer and worn over leggings or jeans and long sleeved t shirt. It has no fastenings which I'm sure will confuse Greig no end when he tries to get it on and off but it's really easy, honest. It's very cool and easy to wear and I heart the cross over back very much.
