Before Christmas I found a pack of fabric in a local quilting shop and bought it with a friend's baby in mind. The colour scheme was bright but gender neutral and I thought it would make a perfect sized playmat for the baby to kick back on.
I bought some yellow spotty fabric to supplement the pack and make the binding and some minky for the reverse side. I asked Greig to buy some wadding in Glasgow one day when I'd sewn together all the blocks, impatient as ever to get it finished. He bought extra thick stuff which wouldn't have worked for a quilt but was perfectly thick and squishy for a playmat. It's not as pliable as a quilt would be and I hope it holds up to regular washing which I'm guessing it will probably need:)
I had some fabric left over which I used to make a taggie.
While the minky is so supersoft it has lost some of the 'bumpy' effect which is a shame.
Making things for babies is so lovely, definitely one of my favourite things to do.
